A practical check before you register the name used on your email, invoices and marketing.

Keep it easy to repeat

A client should be able to hear your domain once and type it correctly. Short names help, but clarity matters more than squeezing every word out of the address.

  • Avoid unusual spelling unless it is already part of the brand
  • Leave out hyphens where possible
  • Read the address aloud before registering it

Choose an extension that fits

A .co.za address is familiar to South African clients. A .com address can suit a business with a wider market. Registering both can protect the name, with one address pointing to the main website.

Check the whole business name

Search company records, social platforms and trade marks before you commit. A domain being available does not mean the business name is free to use.

  • Check the matching business email format
  • Check common social usernames
  • Look for confusingly similar competitors
